Murali rules

Muttiah Muralitharan, the Sri Lankan spin bowler, is not just controversial because of his suspect action, but whether or not he has "had it easy" compared to other high quality spin bowlers (the only one being Shane Warne).

The idea is that Murali's excellent bowling average (currently 21.58) is more due to playing on responsive pitches and against sub-standard opposition (like Zimbabwe and Bangladesh).

Well, the stats people at cricinfo have done the numbers and discovered that, while he has succeeded quite well on spinning pitches and unworthy opposition, his figures show that he is still very effective against quality opposition and on less friendly pitches.

In the end, it shows that Murali has quality, and he should be respected (especially by rude Aussies).
