Merry Christmas

It may be December 24th everywhere else in the world but here across the international date line it is Christmas day. It's 8.25am and I've so far consumed a cup of tea and a fruit mince pie. I'm currently consuming a cup of coffee and a croissant with another one to follow. Then it's off to church and then to my Mother-in-law's where we will have the present giving, Christmas lunch and undoubtedly an afternoon of children playing, eating chocolates and looking at our gifts.

Merry Christmas. I'll post again tonight about the meaning of Christmas too.

I don't mean to be overly pedantic but ...

... don't mistake the American continent(s) and Europe for "everywhere else in the world". When you wrote at 0825 AEDT (UTC+11) it was already Christmas Day in all time zones east of and including UTC+3. That includes all of Asia except Turkey and the Levant, East Africa, European Russia (except Kaliningrad Oblast), as well as Australasia and the Western Pacific (as far as the date line).

If we go by population we have a majority of the world's population already on December 25 at 0825 AEDT. Asia alone has a population of over 4 billion.

If we go by land area or total surface area (including the oceans) then a majority of the world was still on December 24 when you wrote. But it was nowhere near "everywhere else in the world". Just have a look at a world time zone map (eg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e7/Timezones2008.png) and see how much of the earth is in time zones east of and including UTC+3.
